Antony Price, the groundbreaking UK-based designer who crafted some of the most iconic looks associated with David Bowie, Roxy Music, and Queen Camilla, has died at 80 years old.

His reputation was built on his defined forms and dramatic aesthetics, such as the pastel suits that became famous from the iconic band Duran Duran's classic music video for "Rio".

"Remembering him as a 'visionary' and a 'kind, intelligent and razor-witted friend,' the band released a statement online."

Price's death comes shortly after he debuted his latest collection in London, marking his return to the runway after over three decades. Artist Lily Allen modelled a dress evoking the iconic black velvet "revenge dress" once worn by the late Princess Diana.

A Lasting Legacy

A native of Yorkshire, born in 1945, Price moved to London in the early 1960s to enroll at the esteemed Royal College of Art.

Shortly after his graduation, he began designing clothing for men at the label Stirling Copper and was responsible for the form-fitting, button-fly pants that The Rolling Stones' frontman Mick Jagger sported during The Rolling Stones' "Gimme Shelter" tour in 1969.

He established his eponymous line in 1979 and held his debut runway presentation a year later. The show featured as its opener creations worn by supermodel Jerry Hall, who was also seen in the wedding dress Price designed for her for her nuptials with Sir Mick Jagger.

Working with Legends

A key creative partner of the late David Bowie, Price was the mind behind the memorable jacket the artist wore for his "As The World Falls Down" music video in 1986.

His signature ability to blend menswear and womenswear along with his technical proficiency in shaping body-hugging looks cemented his status as a "one-of-a-kind talent," in the words of the UK's fashion authority.

In the 1990s, he started creating ensembles for the then-Duchess of Cornwall, Camilla, such as several ensembles for her American tour following her marriage.

Following a profession lasting more than five decades, Price presented his final runway show in London recently in partnership with the fashion brand 16Arlington.

  • Sculpted Silhouettes: A hallmark of his work.
  • Dramatic Impact: Shaping the look of rock and pop.
  • Boundary-Pushing Tailoring: Blurring lines between clothing for men and women.
  • Working with Stars and Royalty: Including music legends and the future Queen Consort.

The fashion world laments the passing to a genuine innovator whose legacy on fashion and music remains deeply ingrained.
