Investigative Body
The Congressional oversight panel has published a batch of roughly 70 images secured from the holdings of deceased adjudicated sexual predator Jeffrey Epstein.
This constitutes the third publication from a cache of in excess of 95,000 photographs the panel has obtained from Epstein's holdings. It includes images of quotes from the literary work Lolita written across a woman's body, and redacted pictures of women's foreign passports.
This action comes hours before the 19 December cut-off for the DOJ to disclose all documents connected to its inquiry into Epstein.
"These new photographs bring up additional questions about exactly what the Justice Department has in its holdings," stated the ranking member of the committee, Robert Garcia.
A number of the photos published on this week show Epstein in discussion with academic and activist Noam Chomsky aboard a private plane; Bill Gates seen beside a individual whose identity is censored; Steve Bannon seated at a table facing Epstein, and former Alphabet president Sergey Brin at a dinner event.
Committee
These are the most recent high-net-worth, influential men to be photographed in Epstein's estate photographs published by the oversight panel - earlier released pictures also depict US President Donald Trump and ex-president Bill Clinton, as well as movie director Woody Allen, former US treasury secretary Larry Summers, counsel Alan Dershowitz, Andrew Mountbatton-Windsor, and additional individuals.
Showing up in the photos is is not considered proof of any illegal activity, and many of the photographed individuals have stated they were in no way implicated in Epstein's unlawful actions.
In a press release accompanying the photo publication, Democrats on the US House Oversight Committee noted the Epstein property holders did not offer explanatory details or timeframes for the pictures.
"Photographs were chosen to offer the public with openness into a typical cross-section of the photos received from the holdings, and to provide insights into Epstein's associates and his extremely disturbing actions," the release says.
Oversight Panel
The disclosure also features a number of photos of quotes from the Vladimir Nabokov book Lolita penned in dark ink across different parts of a woman's body, like her upper body, feet, hipbone, and rear. Lolita narrates the tale of a young girl who was exploited by a middle-aged literature professor.
A particular quote from the book inscribed across a woman's chest says, "Lolita's name: the end of the tongue taking a trip of three steps down the mouth to land, at three, on the teeth".
There are also a collection of photos of female travel documents and ID papers from nations worldwide, such as Lithuania, Russia, the Czech Republic, and Ukraine.
Committee
Most of the details on the papers, including identities and birth dates, is redacted but the House Oversight Committee stated in a announcement that the passports belong to "females whom Jeffrey Epstein and his associates were involved with".
A further photo depicts Epstein seated at a table closely flanked by three women whose faces have been obscured - one individual has her palm on Epstein's chest under his shirt, and another individual is crouching to view a adjacent device. Epstein can be seen to be aiding the final person put on a piece of jewelry.
Oversight Panel
Another photo made public is a capture of digital messages from an unidentified person who says they have been sent "a number of girls" and are requesting "$1000 for each individual".
The panel has thousands of images in its possession from the Epstein property, which are "simultaneously graphic and everyday," its press release on Thursday clarified.
The oversight panel first issued a subpoena to the property of Epstein, who was found dead in a New York correctional facility in 2019 while pending legal proceedings on allegations of sex trafficking, in August.
The photos and records the Epstein estate's representatives submitted to the committee are distinct from what is commonly called "the Epstein files". That material are papers within the justice department's control related to its separate probe into Epstein.
Under the Transparency Act, which the President enacted recently, the DOJ has a deadline of 19 December to publish its records. The full nature of the contents contained in the DOJ's documents is unclear, and it's expected that much of the material will be significantly censored, akin to Congressional releases
