Former Doctor Accused of Sexual Assault Charges Involving 38 Patients

Prosecutors report that a ex- physician stands accused of performing assaults against 38 individuals who were under his care.

Details of the Serious Charges

The accused, Nathaniel Spencer from Birmingham faces allegations of dozens of acts of sexual assault – comprising some against children younger than 13 – between 2017 and 2021.

A senior CPS official said, “Legal teams have diligently worked to assist a thorough and intricate police inquiry, carefully reviewing the evidence to establish that there is a strong case to proceed to trial and that it is in the interest of justice.”

The Investigation

These allegations come after what investigators described as a “complex investigation” into alleged sexual offences at medical facilities: a hospital in Stoke-on-Trent and Russells Hall hospital.

Spencer is scheduled to appear at the local magistrates' court on 20 January.

List of Charges

Prosecutors said the 45 charges comprise:

  • 15 counts of sexual assault.
  • 17 counts of penetrative assault.
  • Nine counts of sexual assault of a child under 13.
  • Three counts of assault of a child under 13 by penetration.
  • 1 count of attempted penetrative assault.
