Iran Reports Attack on American Facility in the Kingdom of Bahrain, As Part of Widespread Counterattacks.

Tehran reports attacking a US naval base in Bahrain, as Iran launched missile attacks throughout the Middle East in retaliation for a significant and continuing offensive against it by the US and Israel.

Large columns of dark smoke were observed billowing from an area in the area of the main base of the American Fifth Fleet in Manama, Bahrain. The full scale of any damage is unclear and the United States has not commented.

Airspace Engagements

Elsewhere across the region, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar and the State of Kuwait - which all house American military installations - said they have shot down missiles in their airspace.

In the Qatari capital, the Qatari Ministry of Defence announced it had intercepted several missiles seemingly aimed at the Al Udeid Air Base, the biggest US military installation in the region.

Iran's Declared Retaliation

The Iranian Revolutionary Guard said in a statement it was targeting American facilities and interests as part of military campaign "Truthful Promise 4", in reprisal for the attack on the Islamic Republic launched by the United States and its ally Israel on Saturday.

That US-Israeli operation - executed at around 06:15 GMT - has so far focused on areas linked to the the regime, with President Trump encouraging the Iranian people to revolt against the leadership.

Additional Developments

In Israel, air raid sirens sounded across the country after the Israeli military reported it had identified an barrage of missiles from Iran.

The defence ministry of the United Arab Emirates announced that the country has been targeted by a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".

"UAE air defence systems responded to the missiles with notable success and shot down a number of missiles," the statement continued.

It said wreckage fell on a residential area in the capital, resulting in some material damage and the death of one civilian.

The US Air Force is stationed at Al Dhafra Air Base, to the south of the Emirati capital, along with the Emirati Air Force.
