Manchester United Set to Secure German Striker Lea Schüller from Bayern Munich

Manchester United are finalising sealing the deal for prolific German forward Lea Schüller in a permanent move from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.

A Major Signing for the WSL Side

The forward, with six months remaining on her contract, is known as a prolific goal-getter for her club and the national team. Having netted over 100 goals for the German giants and scored 54 times in 82 appearances for her country. This signing is viewed as a major coup for the WSL team.

Her exit from Bayern has been anticipated since she was seen fighting back tears while applauding the club's fans following a victory over Bayer Leverkusen this month.

It was reported in late December that the German women's top flight was losing one of its top strikers. According to reports, the formalities for the move have now been completed.

Consistent Goalscoring to Boost the Attack

The 28-year-old’s signing is expected to provide a major boost to the team's forward line. Schüller has been highly reliable in front of goal in Germany’s top flight.

  • For seven straight seasons, including the last term, she reached at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
  • She claimed the top scorer award in 2021-22 season with 16 goals.

Gathering Momentum at Old Trafford

Securing the German international comes at a time when the club seem to be building positive momentum.

Their recent on-pitch successes feature securing a place in the European knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a win in the League Cup quarter-finals.

Off the pitch, the winter break has brought additional business:

  1. The acquisition of Sweden defender Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
  2. The contract extension for Japanese midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, who has become fan favourite since arriving in 2023.

On Miyazawa’s extension, a senior figure commented: “Miyazawa is now a vital part to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and technical ability allows her and the team to dominate play from central areas.”

Lundkvist, who has arrived from a club in the American league, said: “You can feel how much the club have grown in the last few years, playing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and performing in the Champions League.”
