Norris Edges Out Oscar Piastri in Brazilian Practice Session
Lando Norris has outperformed Oscar Piastri at each of the last five grands prix.
Lando Norris narrowly beat fellow driver and championship contender the Australian for the fastest time in the final moments of practice at the Brazilian Grand Prix.
The British racer, who seized the championship lead from Piastri by one point after winning in the Mexican Grand Prix recently, topped the Australian by a mere 0.023s.
Earlier in the session, Piastri had been the fastest McLaren driver during the running before the sprint shootout due at 18:30 GMT.
The Red Bull star, the other racer in realistic title contention, trailing 36 points behind Norris, finished in 17th position as his team opted for a unique setup.
His teammate the Japanese driver was the only driver to have an incident, if briefly, when he rotated at corner four during the early running.
The Japanese spun out over the exit kerbs before rotating through the gravel trap, and was blessed to get away with just a light touch of the wall.
The Ferrari of Lewis Hamilton also lost it, at the conclusion of the practice, turning around through the fast downhill Mergulho corner before the last turn on to the pit straight.
Hamilton ended the session in 19th place, trailing teammate Charles Leclerc.
The McLaren drivers were well clear of the remaining drivers, with the German's car P3, 0.619 seconds behind Piastri's pace.
Aston Martin's Fernando Alonso was fourth fastest, with the Sauber of Gabriel Bortoleto in front of Mercedes' Russell and the Alpine of Pierre Gasly and the Williams of Sainz.
