One of Avatar: The Last Airbender's top installments receives an exclusive Magic: The Gathering collector's set.

Usually, summary installments are disliked from viewers as a pointless waste of time, or sometimes tolerated as a necessity in television in the age of regular broadcasts. This wasn't always the case, and Avatar: The Last Airbender demonstrated this via "The Ember Island Players," a beloved segment during its concluding run now being granted an exclusive Magic: The Gathering Secret Lair release.

Details of the Secret Lair

The full Secret Lair superdrop for the forthcoming Avatar: The Last Airbender collection was unveiled recently. Containing five separate collections, and although the one called "My Cabbages!" is certainly humorous tribute to the show's most famous minor character, the other collections seem somewhat less imaginative, with one notable exception: "The Ember Island Players."

Drawing from episode 17 of the third season of the beloved series, this Secret Lair features these particular cards:

What makes this episode stands out

Viewers of the series warmly cherish this particular episode, which functioned as a recap of the hero Aang and the group's journey prior to the final episode. Different from standard summary installments, or compilation episodes, "The Ember Island Players" was not driven from financial limitations or scheduling problems. The show's makers truly wanted to provide audiences an opportunity to recap the series' story, however, they opted to do it creatively.

In the episode, the main characters observe a stage show based on their adventures on a stage set on Ember Island, called The Boy in the Iceberg. The entire performance is factually incorrect, cheesy, and utterly comical. It succeeds as it plays on the characters' views of themselves, setting them against against how the world (and especially the antagonist nation) perceives them. It possesses the perfect balance of introspective humor, and it becomes perhaps the top rendition of the show released so far.

Appeal and pricing

In terms of value, this is a great Secret Lair because of one major element: Braid of Fire. This specific card trades for $20 and $40 on various platforms at the time of writing, while for $29.99 you can snag the full set, or for $39.99 for the foil version.

Magic: The Gathering's Avatar: The Last Airbender edition can be accessed during early access events beginning November 14 and debuts internationally on November 21.
