The franchise has seldom managed to match its most famous competitor in aspects of revenue or user base, but there are signs the latest version could narrow the difference.
A trial weekend allowing users a opportunity to test the release earlier this year achieved milestones, and the buzz leading up to its debut has been massive.
However the undertaking is still a big gamble for company the gaming giant, which has according to sources spent vast amounts of money making it.
Reporters have spoken to a number of the developers to learn how they hope it will pay off.
Several development houses have been developing the project under the Battlefield Studios banner.
They include original series producer the original team, headquartered in Scandinavia, Los Angeles-based Motive developers and Ripple Effect Studios in Canada.
Another, Criterion, is located in England.
Rebecka Coutaz is the executive of the two EU-based teams, and tells reporters that, in respect of what it's offering players, "Battlefield 6 is probably unmatched."

In spite of reports that the scope of the project had created pressure for the multiple studios working together globally to develop the game, Fas is positive about the work.
"Partnering with different backgrounds, different backgrounds, it's a truly fascinating atmosphere to be part of every day," he shares.
"The complete approach has been an innovation but additionally really inspiring because we are working with team members from around the globe."
As for the pressure on the crew, Fas comments: "We feel pressure but at the same time it's exciting.
"We're dealing with a major venture. It's likely the largest that many of us have before worked on."
