Two Victims Named in the Ivy League School Attack as Law Enforcement Persist in Search for Gunman.

Both young individuals who lost their lives in the weekend's violent attack at Brown University had tributes paid to them on Monday – while an intensive search for their killer carried on following the freeing by local law enforcement of the only individual detained in connection in the case.

Remembering Ella Cook

Ella Cook, a second-year student from Alabama, was called “an incredible, grounded, faithful, bright light”, according to the Cathedral Church of the Advent, Birmingham, which honored her memory at a service on Sunday.

Her role included the vice-presidency of Brown’s branch of College Republicans of America, the group said. Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt also expressed condolences on social media, saying in part: “It's indescribable. Remembering her family and friends, above all her mom and dad.”

The Second Victim

The other deceased individual was an Uzbek national named MukhammadAziz Umurzokov, a citizen of Uzbekistan in his first year of studies at the prestigious university, family members said.

His name was officially acknowledged by the Uzbek Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

“He was exceptionally gentle, witty, and bright. He harbored grand aspirations of becoming a neurosurgeon and aiding others,” his sister, Samira Umurzokova said in a memorial statement.

What Happened

Nine more persons were wounded in Saturday’s attack in the engineering department of Brown’s campus in Providence, during the school’s final exam period.

Authorities said late Sunday that a 24-year-old male taken into custody in a search at a lodging about around 27 kilometers from the campus earlier in the day was being released.

“A perpetrator remains free,” stated the state's top prosecutor, Peter Neronha.

He added, “Investigations can lead one way, and then you must reassess and pursue a different angle, and that’s exactly what has happened over the last day or so.”

Public Fear

Brett Smiley, Brett Smiley, admitted: “It is expected to provoke renewed concern for our public”.

The shooter began shooting inside a room in the engineering building on Saturday afternoon, firing more than 40 rounds from a 9mm handgun, a law enforcement official informed the media outlet.

Officers that raided the inn seized two firearms and magazines when the individual was arrested, as was reported.

The Wounded Victims

Regarding the nine injured, one pupil was released from the hospital, mentioned Christina Paxson, Christina Paxson. Seven more were in grave but unchanging health, and another was critically ill, officials reported on Sunday.

A private school, a private academy in the city of Durham, said a recent graduate, Kendall Turner, was in the group of seriously hurt victims.

More Condolences

Tributes were paid to Cook at a memorial in Birmingham on Sunday. A reverend stated, “She shone as a remarkable, stable, devout beacon not only in her youth... but at the university she was an incredible light in that particular place as well.”

A group leader, Martin Bertao, released remarks from the club. “Ella was recognized for her courageous, valiant, and compassionate nature as she served her chapter and peers,” he said.

Jonathan Henick, Jonathan Henick, said he was “deeply saddened” by the student's death in a statement. “Our profound condolences go out to his relatives, companions, and peers and lament the passing of his bright future.”

The fatal shooting at Brown, the country's seventh most historic higher education institution with about thousands of bachelor's and three thousand graduate students, occurred during one of at least 392 mass shootings reported in the US so far in the current year, according to statistics. Monday was the 349th day of the year.
