Scorching conditions and raging wildfires have devastated the dry landscape of Western Australia. With temperatures expected to persist soaring above 40C (104F) over the coming days, a severe alert for extreme heat has been issued across a large portion of the southwestern region.

These conditions come after this month's bushfires in another state, which resulted in the destruction of properties and fatalities. Intense heat alerts have additionally been activated for later this week in areas within SA and NSW, as a system of high pressure moves to the east, delivering intense heat to much of the area.
